Can't Stop, Won't Stop! - Bishop Claude A. Alexander

The content of this blog is the second part of a series called 'Necessity Christianity' by Bishop Claude A. Alexander of University Park Baptist Church.

The main point of Bishop Alexanders sermon was 'GOT TO MOVE FORWARD'!

When you will not accept your preference and fulfill God's assignment, He will send a circumstance to come your way to free you from yourself!!

So even though you think you're set back, you're still moving forward!!

Another phrase he kept throwing out was 'Can't Stop! Won't Stop!'

Can't speaks to your ability and won't speaks to your determination!!

So with that said, don't forget that
A) It's not about you!
B) As long as you follow His plan, you're on your way to success!!!

Here are the scriptures he read from:
Luke 4:31-32; 37-44

Entreprenuerial Thinking Pt. 1

As I was sitting in Intro to Public Speaking today listening to my fellow classmates give speeches about either a profession, culture, or major, I kept hearing the same thing over and over :
"...blah blah blah....this major can help you get many jobs when you graduate especially since the economy is bad....blah blah.....this profession is really needed and isn't effected by our horrible economy....blah, blah, and blah!!!"

Why are we soooo focused on the job 'after' we get our degree?
Why aren't we thinking or even being taught to start our [own] business [now]?!

This really gets on my nerves because:
1. We're thinking about then and not about right now
2. We aren't even considering (the students) or promoting (the teachers) owning our own businesses
3. There are plenty of internships and co-ops out there (in engineering at least) for freshmen to seniors but we aren't taking advantage of them!!

We are too busy worried about working (for) someone else. I'm not down with that concept!!

As college students we should be developing our business plan now so that by the time our degree is completed, our business will either be in it's beginning stages or in full effect!!

I don't think going to college should only be about job security. I think going to college should be about adding credibility to what you already know (or think you know), and meeting people that are headed in your direction so that you can work together. -- College should just be an opportunity to network with professors, students, and businesses.

So with that said, I will go and WRITE DOWN my dreams, goals, aspirations, business plan etc. so that I can measure my progress towards making money for myself and creating an inheritance for those who may come after me.

I encourage you to do the same!!

JUST DO IT!

'Just Do It!' is my new motto for life. I've used it in the past and it worked. These three words are my motivation. Instead of putting things off all the time, just do it!

Think about it, I'm sure you procrastinate ALL THE TIME! There are things that you know you need to do and you'll say 'oh well I'll do that tomorrow', well tomorrow is not promised! And when tomorrow finally does come, there are other things that come in your way and that simple thing that could've/should've been done yesterday, gets pushed into another 'tomorrow' until it's months later.

My uncle and I have recently talked about procrastination and everything it brings and the both of us have decided to JUST DO IT!

So to relieve stress and to do all of the things I WANT to do in life, I will no longer procrastinate and I'll JUST DO IT!

'Do not put off for tomorrow what u could do today! Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is not promised! Do whatever it is that you have to do and whatever it is that you want to do TODAY!'

“Y'all don't know my struggle! Y'all can't match my hustle!”

Dream:
• a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal : I fulfilled a childhood dream when I became champion | the girl of my dreams | [as adj. ] they'd found their dream home.
• an unrealistic or self-deluding fantasy : maybe he could get a job and earn some money—but he knew this was just a dream.
I was talking to a friend tonight and he made me realize that it could always suck more! Now as I tried to relate this message to him, and I’m very aware that he knows this already, it was a wake up call for myself. We often take things in life for granted like it will always be there and the truth is it won’t.

He expressed to me the trials and tribulations he has had to face both while we were in high school and even now that we are in college. You see, this isn’t just an ordinary individual. This is someone who has always taken school seriously and has kept his work ethic throughout it all.

I remember when he was in JROTC with me freshmen year and he was always getting awards-including the academic achievement award for A’s in all subjects! Even though he got out of JROTC, we still had classes together, and he still achieved all A’s.

However, when senior year approached, he felt as though everything he had done would go unrecognized. Why? Because to some he was ‘illegal’ and to colleges he was considered an ‘international student’. Now is it fair for someone who has lived in America and worked hard to earn the same grades as other Americans to have to sit through senior awards and listen to how other people received scholarships from this organization and that organization knowing that he worked just as hard?! NO! But is life fair? Unfortunately, no.

Now don’t get me wrong, although this is a very hardworking student and employee as well, some wrong choices that he made forced him to grow up real quick!

So even though this student has the potential to go to Harvard, Duke, U of Miami, or any college for that matter, he wasn’t able to. It wasn’t because of his grades or involvement, it was because of some ‘legal’ technicalities which declared him as an international student and denied him of financial aid.

This young man had dreams just like you and I of attending a four-year university with scholars of his caliber but had to settle for Central Piedmont Community College. Because of some other poor decisions on his part he had to live on his on AND pay for classes himself. He had to defer his dream but you know what, looking at the bigger picture, that’s all this is - a deferment.

See what he may not realize now is that his hard work will pay off! God will NEVER bring you through something and not bless you when you come out. It doesn’t work that way.

So I am using him as my inspiration to keep chasing my dream and so should you. Realize that the position that you’re in may suck to you but be great to someone else and you shouldn’t take that for granted. To know that he is working 50 hours a week AND going to school makes me not only want to work harder with my ‘light load’ but proud of him for having the strength to handle his heavy load.

So to my dear, dear friend who I love a lot, KEEP YOUR HEAD UP BECAUSE IT COULD ALWAYS SUCK MORE!!!

And in the words of Mr. H.I.G.H H.O.P.E.S…
“If you were gonna give up you should’ve done it a long time ago!/ Look how far determination and a good mind will go!/ Cuz when you got HIGH HOPES/ they try to keep you low/ but when you know your soul/ they can’t defeat you though!!!!!!!”
I hope someone gets something out of this very true story!!!

High Hopes - Mr. High Hopes

Sunday, December 7, 2008

As some of you may know I am a member of University Park Baptist Church in Charlotte. Well since I am at NC State the only way I can go to that church is online.

Well a good friend of mine and for the sake of his security I'll just use his first name - Dennis - introduced me to World Overcomers Christian Center.

Now this church is similar to University Park in that the music is good as well as the message. Now it has it's differences - it doesn't look like a traditional church with a 'choir stand' and a traditional 'pulpit' with chairs for the ministers. The praise team just comes on the stage, sing, and go back to their seats. Well this is probably because the sermon is actually broadcast on t.v because my aunt informed me that she actually watches it.

Well the pastor - Pastor Andy Thomas - preaches a great word every time I've heard him speak and some of his messages actually relate to this blog.

So, my point is, some of my future postings may be something that I've learned from his sermon.

Enjoy!

Why my dreams keep me up at night!?

Well every time I lay down to go to sleep, I am interrupted by my thoughts! It can become quite aggravating when I REALLY need to go to sleep, but can be enlightening otherwise. That's probably because when I lay in my bed, I have NO CHOICE but to give my self undivided attention and listen to my thoughts. I spend most of my days running around being busy and I never really have 'me' time.

So yes, my dreams really keep me up at night! I try to go to sleep but I always find myself thinking about certain things in my life or certain things going on around me. I can never really pin point exactly when I fall asleep (but then again who can?) but sometimes I get so fed up I try to shut it off (I guess 'it' is my thoughts...idk) but it seldom works! I end up thinking about the dreams I have in life or as mentioned earlier...anything else

So with that said, that's why I created this blog. With the intent to share some of my dreams/thoughts with others!

Topics may vary!
Stay Tuned!

Enjoy ;-)
